Tabata Tuesday!! Week 4:Day 2 on my Insanity Max:30 journey.

Tabata Strength from Insanity Max is a killer workout! Push-ups are not my strength and this workout has lots of different varieties; V push-ups, tricep push-ups and regular push-ups. But I’m sure when I’m done with Insanity Max:30 I will be stronger than ever.  I’m not crazy about jumps either but I’m trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and really go for it.  I’m excited that my abs are getting more defined, even with the extra treats I’ve been eating because of the holidays.

I can’t believe that the 2015 is right around the corner.  Where did the time go?  It seems like 2014 just flew by!

January is usually when everyone gets a gym membership and commits to changing their health and fitness.  Have you been to a gym in the beginning of January?  It’s PACKED!!  Have you been back in February?  It’s back to how it was in December.  Why does that happen?  Most people are expecting instant results and when they don’t happen they give up.  They don’t know what they should be doing each day and slowly they stop going.

Here’s what I’ve learned since running and participating in challenge groups:

1. 80 % of your results come from your nutrition 

You can do cardio all day, everyday but if you don’t change your eating you’re not going to change your body. You can’t out exercise a bad diet.

2. SUPPORT is the key to SUCCESS!! 

Having a community of support to check in daily with is what was the secret to my success.  At any given time I could make a post in the closed group regarding my daily struggles and someone would give me either a tip, suggestion, lift me up or love on me so that I didn’t quit.  I felt encouraged that I wasn’t alone and that others were going through the same thing as me.  There was always someone else who was feeling like me and being part of that group made all the difference for me. I was not alone!  We were all in this together.

3. I need a system

I am the type of person that needs a detailed schedule to follow, a meal plan to duplicate and proven results for me to believe!  I cannot just wing it.  I need a guide to get me through each step.  I want to know that if I do X,Y and Z I will get the results of those in the infomercial.  I love that every Beachbody Fitness Program comes with a nutrition guide to help me eat for the workout I am doing!  I love that Beachbody has the awesome food storage containers so that I am eating the right amount of food each day.  It truly takes the guesswork out of my nutrition. This is afterall the hardest thing to change and Beachbody does a killer job at tackling that with ease!

4. Shakeology 

Shakeology is not a protein shake or weight loss quick fix.  I will be honest, I was skeptical at first when I heard of all the amazing things that Shakeology does for a body.  But despite being skeptical I had to try it.  I started to feel a change in my body after two weeks.  I had more energy, less cravings and my digestion was improved.  The biggest change was my energy level.  Plus it was nutrition that I wasn’t getting before.  I felt healthier, my workouts were better and now it’s my daily multivitamin.

5. Accountability for me

As a coach, I am just as accountable to myself as I am to my challengers.  As a coach I stay on track because I know I am leading by example. I want to inspire the others that I’m working with and each day I do my best as an example to them.   I want those around me to say, “If she can do it, I can do it too!  I’m no different than her” Because it’s true, I’m no different than anyone else.  I struggle and have off days too but being in a challenge group keeps me accountable.

21 Day Fix Testimony

I’m so inspired on this Motivational Monday…I can’t wait to share photos of one of my 21 Day Fix challengers because she’s blowing my mind with her consistency and determination. She’s not quite ready to do her big reveal yet but I can share she’s seeing amazing results. She’s completed two rounds of the 21 Day Fix and has lost 20.1 lbs and 37 inches over her entire body. I can’t say enough about this program and how it can change lives. The nutrition plan is so easy to follow and combined with the amazing fitness program, it delivers results.

Best of all she has seen improvements on the inside of her body as well. Her blood pressure is lower, her confidence is higher and she’s focused on her goals. I’m so proud of the work she’s doing to change her life. She inspires me every single day with her positive attitude, her ability to move past setbacks and her strength and determination she has to reach her goals. She’s not thinking about what life will be like “if” she reaches her goals but she knows she’s going to get there. What a blessing it is that I get to be a part of such an amazing transformation. 21 Day Fix Testimony:

I’m in the 4th round of 21 day fix, and I have good results. The 21 day fix has been a blessing to me, I started out with high blood pressure within the first round the numbers were dropping. I have lost pounds and inches and gained a lot happiness within myself that I know something is finally working to help me lose weight , become healthy and become a better me. I have tried lots of diets from A to Z and even had gastric bypass and nothing worked. But I can say the 21 day fix is working for me and I could not be happier with it. It’s not easy but not all that hard either. Weight is something I have struggled with for many years and so I say this If I can do this anyone can do it. The workouts are great, they are 30 minutes every day. I’m not perfect at them but I still do what I can. I was scared to try the workouts at first, I have a back that hurts at times and was wondering how my back would do, but I have not had no problems with it except when I slept on it wrong and hurt it, it kept me from doing the workouts and I missed not doing them. I don’t think I have ever said I missed working out before. It’s amazing how in such a short time of being on 21 DAY FIX how it has changed my life for the better. My Coach Ashley is AWESOME and I owe her for taking the time to want to help me and see me though my weight loss journey. I have still a long journey ahead of me but I know I will have the 21 day fix and Ashley right there with me.

21 things I discovered during the 21 day fix.
1. I did not starve
2. The containers made more food than I thought they would
3. I do have the determination to lose weight and get healthy
4. Its not an easy 21 days, but very easy to follow
5. I can go out to eat while on this plan and still follow the guide lines, I did it twice during the 21 days, and ate what I was suppose to, I went to Olive Garden and Red Lobster.
6. I can go without soda, I was drinking around 3 a day
7. I don’t have to have a soda first thing in the morning to get my day going.
8. I can make time everyday for 30 mins of workouts
9. I can go to bed without having a chocolate snack or any snack
10. I can say no to food, don’t have to eat it because its there.
11. Ashley is a awesome coach and supporter.
12. Wheat type of food are not that bad
13. I can push myself more than I ever thought I could
14. The support in the group is awesome
15. I don’t have to let temptations take over.
16. Its okay to have a bad day.
17. I’m more aware of proportion sizes
18. The red and yellow cups are my favorite
19. Pepper is my friend
20. Salt is not my friend
21. I love my results after 21 days.

 

Insanity Max:30 Friday Fight Preview

Are you feeling fierce today? I just finished Friday Fight Round 1 from Insanity Max:30 and now I’m pumped up and feeling FIERCE!!

I didn’t feel fierce when I started. In fact, I didn’t even want to workout this morning. I had a bunch of excuses trying to drag me down. But I used my 15 minute rule, on days I don’t want to do a workout I tell myself, “do it for 15 minutes and if I still want to quit I can quit” Usually 15 minutes is enough time to get me into my groove and I won’t quit. Plus with Insanity Max:30, 15 minutes is half way through the workout. 

I didn’t feel fierce while I was doing it either. This workout was tough and challenged me mentally from the very beginning. I kept saying to myself, ” ran a marathon I can get through this workout” it was that HARD!! But now that it’s all done, I feel so proud of myself that week one of Insanity Max:30 is DONE!!

Insanity Max:30 – Busy Mom Version 1.0

Insanity Max:30 Day 2 is in the books. Tabata Power was an INSANE workout and I absolutely loved it!  It challenged me in ways that I didn’t know were possible.  I was finished and dripping in sweat.  Hello, 5 minutes of different variations of tricep pushups and then 5 minutes of different ways of doing a tricep dip!!! WOW!!  My arms are going to be screaming at me tomorrow.

This is what working out at home with 3 kids under my feet looks like. My kids love to jump into a workout, especially if it’s a new one. Phoebe started in her bathrobe and changed into workout clothes by the time I was done. They stayed by my side for the entire 30 minute workout.

Don’t let kids be the excuse to not get in a workout. I’ve been working out with my kids under my feet for 3 years.  In the beginning there was a lot of interruptions but slowly they learned to either leave me alone or join in to the workout.  Sometimes I have to pause it and go break up a fight, kiss a boo boo or wipe a bottom (my three year old loves to use my workout times as his potty time) but I just start back up after the quick break.

Be the example to them and you’ll be surprised that they will probably cheer you on and might even join in with you!

A few years ago, my life started to feel out of control.  I was trying to be the perfect wife and the perfect mother.  I was dedicating all of my time and energy to my family and none to my own well-being.  I was getting burned out and resentful.  The chaos was getting to be more than I could handle and I knew I wouldn’t be able to continue living life that way.  I decided it was time to do something for myself as well.  I started to run and workout and it wasn’t long before I was feeling an amazing difference in myself; how I felt, how I thought, even how I looked.  I felt like I was doing something that was nourishing my body and my soul and I was hooked.  Once I discovered how amazing I felt I wanted to share it with everyone, so they could feel as amazing as I did.  I wanted other mothers to realize that taking time for themselves is not selfish and it’s okay to do something for you.  I became a coach so I could share my passion with as many people as possible. Coaching has also been a way for me to contribute to our family income while I stay at home with my 3 kids.

21 Day Fix Results - 1

I’m so thankful I have the chance to change my life physically and financially but I also have the chance to help others do the same thing. I run challenge groups (learn more here) to help people start exercising, I teach them how to eat clean and keep them motivated as they do their fitness program.  I’ve helped countless people change their lives and watching them make changes just motivates me even more.  Aside from being a mother, this is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had.

I started out working about 1 hour a day but now I’m working about 3-4 hours on a long day.  The best part is that my schedule is 100% flexible.  I can make it work around what’s best for my family.  I can also work from any location, so if we need to travel my work can come with me. My husband recently retired from the Air Force and my income is helping support our family as he transitions into a new career.  My income will also be a way for us to buy the home of my dreams.

What is a Challenge Group?

It’s getting close to the end of the year and that means the start of a fresh new year is upon us.  The beginning of a new year is typically when everyone makes New Year’s resolutions.  This is when you decide you are finally going to get healthy.  You are going to workout. You are FINALLY going to lose that last bit of weight you’ve been complaining about.  So what do you do?  You buy a gym membership (like everyone else who feels like you, so it’s going to be busy at the gym!).  You hit the treadmill and wait for results.  And you wait, and you keep waiting.

I’m not anti gym.  I think the gym can be an awesome place to get a workout in, if you know what you’re doing.  Most people don’t know what they should be doing each time they go and then they’re frustrated when they don’t see results.  When it comes to getting my workouts in, I do them at home in 1/2 the time, without the commute too. Since I’m a busy mom with three kids, running a business from home, I need to save all the time I can.   Plus my at home workouts come with a set schedule and plan to follow so there is never any guess work about what to do.

What is a challenge group? A challenge group is a safe and private place where you will be on a journey with people who are striving for the same goals as you.  You’ll receive support and encouragementas you make changes to improve your overall health.  It’s an online support group that has other people with fitness goals that are similar to your own and it’s all done in a Facebook group – which is closed and only seen by the members in the group.

As your coach, I am there to help you design a program to meet your health and fitness needs using one of our programs like P90X, Insanity, T25 or the 21 Day Fix.

While in the group, I will help you get started towards success.  You will follow the nutrition guidelines that come with your program along with adding Shakeology as a daily meal replacement.  Shakeology is not a protein or diet drink, its a nutritional supplement full of vitamins, minerals pre and probiotics and superfoods.  It will help boost your energy, cut your cravings and keep you full longer.  If you wanted to eat as many vegetables that are in one shake you’d have to eat six salads!  It’s a powerful tool for weight loss.  I will also help you find healthy recipes that you like, give you snack ideas and make sure your nutrition is on point for you to have success.  I will also hold you accountable and motivate you to keep going when you reach a low point.

Everyday, I will post in the group and you will check in and let us know how your day went – what you ate, how your workout went, whether you worked out at all… having a group keeps you accountable to your goals and there is a whole group waiting to hear from you, support, motivate, and encourage you. What is Insanity Max:30?

NSANITY MAX:30 is the challenging new 30-minute, in-home workout program from Shaun T, creator of INSANITY and Focus T25. Shaun T has developed 150 new cardio and strength moves that will make you push harder and dig deeper than ever before to get the best body of your life in just 60 days.

INSANITY MAX:30 will be the hardest 30 minutes of the day and you need to be ready to MAX OUT. It’s not about “getting through” all 30 minutes, it’s about going as hard as possible, for as long as possible, until becoming “MAXED OUT” (i.e. until taking the first rest and/or breaking proper form). No equipment needed… just push to the MAX for INSANE results in just 60 days.

What can I expect?

First off, I can’t even begin to say how excited I am about this program.  INSANITY MAX:30 is a workout where you compete against yourself every single day.  You’re pushing yourself to your limits and seeing how far you can go.  The goal is to MAX out and go as long as you can without taking a break.  When you do take a break you record your time and try to push yourself a little further next time.  The workouts are intense but they’re shorter than most workouts.  You’ll get twice the sweat in half the time. Plus you only have to workout 5 days a week!  There is also a modifier in all the workouts and there is an option on the DVD to have the modifier shown onscreen at all times.  If you tried Insanity but want something with shorter workouts, this is for you!

The average person gains 7-10lbs through this season and it’s my goal to make sure that you don’t have that happen. I think everyone can enjoy the treats of the season while still keeping their goals in mind. We’ll be working out hard, focusing on having 90% good nutrition and still allowing 10% for the yummy treats!

 

Healthy Eating Must Haves

If you’re wanting to start eating healthier but are unsure what to buy when you go to the store here is a few of my favorite must have items.  I always have these things in my kitchen so I can make easy meals, snack on healthy food and stay on track with my clean eating goals.

1. Spinach 

Spinach is probably one of my top must have items.  I go through a container like this once a week by myself.  I eat it in salads and sauté it in dinner recipes.  Spinach has a low calorie content and high nutrient content which means this super food packs a punch. Each serving of spinach increases your vitamin and mineral intake while decreasing your risk for preventable health conditions including heart disease and cancer.

2. Hummus

Hummus is one of my go to snacks.  I eat it with veggies or whole grain crackers and it fills me up and tastes delicious.  Hummus is rich in protein so it will help keep you full longer which will aid in weight loss and management.  You can also use it as a spread on sandwiches for a healthier alternative to mayonnaise.  Chickpeas (the main ingredient in hummus) has been linked to lower cancer risk as well.  It comes in many different flavors too.

3. Greek Yogurt

I absolutely love Greek yogurt.  I started eating it for my night time snack a few months ago.  It has become my tasty treat every night after dinner.  Greek yogurt has twice the protein of regular yogurt.  It is also an excellent source of calcium, potassium, zinc and B6 and B12 vitamins.  It is also full of probiotics that aid in digestion.  I usually have my Greek yogurt with fruit or granola.

4.  Greek Yogurt Dip

This Greek yogurt dip is something I eat for a snack with veggies or whole grain crackers.  It adds variety to my snacks instead of eating hummus all the time.  It’s low in calories, tastes delicious and could even be used as a dressing on salads.  This dip comes in several different flavors but my favorite is Jalapeño and Salsa.

5. GrapeNuts

I absolutely love GrapeNuts.  I use them in my Greek yogurt to give it a little crunch.  I also add a small amount to my salads to add a different texture, in place of a crouton.  Of course I like to eat them in the traditional way with milk too.  GrapeNuts is made from whole grain wheat and barley and has a nutty flavor.

6. Healthy on the go snack

I like to make sure I have several options for an on the go snack.  Something that I can keep in my purse so if I get hungry I can grab it.  I have several different types of healthy bars that I enjoy.  I love Kind bars because they’re delicious and don’t have that traditional protein bar flavor.  I also love LaraBars for the same reason.  Experiment with which type of on the go healthy bar you prefer and make sure you always have one with you if you get hungry.  It’s better to have a smart choice on hand then make a bad eating choice out of desperation.

7. Skinnygirl Water Enhancer

I’m not a fan of using a water enhancer with every cup of water I drink.  This is also the only brand of water enhance I recommend.  It’s made with stevia, which is a natural sweetener, while most other water enhancers are made with artificial sweeteners.  I try to drink 80-100oz of water a day but towards the end of the day I can get tired of plain water.  For my last 20oz of water I treat myself by adding a few drops to my glass and it always tastes delicious.

8. Frozen Turkey Burgers

I use these frozen turkey burgers several times a week.  They’re very easy to prepare and you don’t need to thaw them out to cook them.  I just throw them in a skillet and cook on each side for 7 minutes.  I use these in several different types of meals.  I cut up the burger and add it to salads or sautéed veggies.  I eat them wrapped in lettuce for a bunless burger.  Sometimes I just eat them plain with a little bit of mustard.  They are an easy way for me to get in protein instead of just eating grilled chicken all the time. I prefer this brand that I purchased at Costco but experiment with what your store offers.  Just make sure you read the ingredients and check that there isn’t any added stuff to them.

9. Quinoa

Quinoa is my favorite whole grain (although it’s not technically a grain it’s categorized as one).  It is packed full of protein, fiber and many vitamins and nutrients.  I use quinoa instead of rice or pasta in many recipes.  I add it to salads too.  It’s delicious used in healthy casseroles or just eaten as a side dish seasoned with garlic and spices.  If you haven’t tried quinoa yet, run to the store and get it!  I promise you won’t regret it.

10. Shakeology

11. Vinegars

I love to have a variety of vinegars on hand to add to salads and sautéed veggies.  It’s a way to season food without adding any calories.

12. Frozen Veggies

I usually prefer to eat my vegetables fresh but I always have frozen veggies on hand.  I prefer this blend that I get at Costco.  It has two types of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower.  I can throw together a quick meal in a pinch with these vegetables.  I just sauté them on the stove with a little seasoning, add a little water and cover them until they’re cooked.  I can them pair them with a protein and whole grain for a quick meal.
